ROAR
Roar was commissioned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to imagine a new kind of Daycare Centre in Riyadh, a place where the earliest years of life are shaped through space, texture, light, and movement.
The brief called for more than a functional facility. It asked for an environment where children from birth to age three could truly flourish, grounded in the belief that the right surroundings can transform a child’s formative experience.
The visual language establishes continuity across the project, introducing a coherent aesthetic grounded in simplicity and clarity. Geometry, proportion, and softness work together to create an environment that feels legible and reassuring to young children.
As the project develops, the relationship between space, light, and scale is refined with increasing precision. What was initially defined through principles and intent is progressively resolved into spatial conditions that shape perception, comfort, and movement.
Every area of the centre is designed and developed with the child at its core. Deeply inspired by Maria Montessori’s pedagogical philosophy, each space is carefully conceived to support the neurological development and overall well-being of young, growing minds.
The rooms offer a rich sensory environment, interactive, engaging, and thoughtfully calibrated to stimulate curiosity, exploration, and learning through experience.
Vertical elements composed of stacked, bead-like forms are integrated into architectural features. Designed at a child’s height, they invite touch, sliding, and manipulation, supporting fine motor skills and embedding play directly into the fabric of the space.
The logo draws direct inspiration from Montessori blocks, reflecting the project’s focus on early childhood learning through the experience of simple, primitive forms.
The cord element is a contemporary homage to Saudi hand weaving, grounding the identity in local cultural heritage.
